Klimt by Keiryn

The Klimt art classes that I have been teaching for the past few weeks have inspired my seven year old daughter Keiryn, to take things a step further on her own. Check out this beautiful acrylic painting she did (without me even knowing a thing about it).

Isn't it fricking gorgeous? I am so proud of her for being so artistic and for branching out on her own. I wish you could see it in real life. It has so much texture and the gold marker that she used in the background glimmers in the light. It's lovely. And, if you look closely, she put a skull and crossbones in the tree (for Grady) and some zebra print in the tree (for me). Too cute. This one is a framer for sure!

Happy Birthday Kienna!

Wow. I really can't believe how quickly time goes by. It feels like just a couple of years ago I was pregnant with Kienna and today she turns 10!

I can't begin to describe how proud I am of her. She's smart, funny, caring, healthy and beautiful. I'm the luckiest mom in the world.

Dear Tooth Fairy

Okay, I think this might be the cutest letter EVER, written by my seven year old daughter to the Tooth Fairy last night. I laughed outloud when I read the part about 50 dollars.

Translation:

Dear Tooth Fairy,

I am saving up for a guitar and I almost have enough money for it so please can you give me like 50 dollars or something. I ripped my tooth out just for you!

Blue Whiskey

My girls loooooove Jones Soda and they don't often get to drink it. A few days ago, Grady went to the store and bought them each one, bubble gum flavour. Sweet! They were so excited. Kienna started rambling on about how we need to send in photos of Foo-Foo (her favorite stuffy) because surely Jones Soda would like to use Foo-Foo on one of their labels. Keiryn asked me if it was okay to peel off her label and make her own (she's such a budding graphic designer). I told her she could do whatever she wanted and she went upstairs.

I had forgotten about what she was up to until a little while later when she came downstairs with her modified soda bottle label. She was so cute and proud of her new design.

I told her it was awesome and very creative as I tried to contain my laughter. Umm.... although it's super cute and funny, do you think that perhaps her overall concept is a sign of bad parenting?

Breakfast TV

Well, we're finally home from the Make It show and we had an incredible time. I've lots to share this week.

The first morning in Calgary was spent on the set of City TV as the girls enjoyed their TV debut. Pictured above are the girls, and to their right is the host of the show, and to their left is the awesome camera guy who by coincidence, is the husband of one of my all time best friends (who we stayed with while in Calgary). It was super handy to have him as the camera man because the girls felt totally comfortable and at ease having someone they knew on the set. Thanks Nick for zooming in on my art and going that extra mile for us!

The TV interview went great. I only had a couple of minutes to talk. The girls did a short demo on how they make their cards and then I stuttered through a bit of a story on us but I was so nervous, that I completely forgot what I had rehearsed for the past week and kind of spit out some random sentences in a panick to try and say what I wanted to say before my time was up. I now know that being a television star is NOT my inner passion, nor do I excel at it. But, it was a wonderful experience and thanks to Make It for making it happen for us. The girls loooooved it. And I mean, how could they not? Most people live their entire lives without being on TV. They're pretty darn lucky.

I am still trying to get a hold of the three minute segment video to show all of you, but below is a link to a small promo piece they did on the girls that ran throughout the day to advertise Make It. Again, once I have the three minute video I will post it. I think you have to be signed into facebook to be able to watch this video but I really don't know what I'm doing so I hope it works!
