Welcome to The Fruit's Gone Wild series! After considering a Martini series, or a guitar series, I decided to do a fruit series. After all, pears look a lot like guitars, and apples taste great in martinis. Check back daily to see the series grow. I hope to do 12 pieces for this collection, and then move on to a new series.
The Fruit's Gone Wild...
The Stunning Dragon
I'm in love with this piece. It's stunning. The thing I love about this piece is that when I was drawing it, I was being constantly reminded of something that I had forgotten: beauty is everywhere. We are surrounded by it every day. Whether it be the simple smile on a child's face or the glorious detail in the wings of a butterfly, we can find beauty everywhere, and anywhere. All we have to do is remember to pay attention and to notice it. The dragon fruit totally reminded me of how life can pass us by with it's busy distractions, and that sometimes we should just sit back and pay close attention to the simple beauty within it all.

Sassy Pears
I've always had an appreciation for pears. They're actually my favorite fruit. I love the way they taste and I love the way they look. I think what I love about drawing pears is that their shape is so beautiful. To me, it seems to mimic the shape of a guitar. And I also love guitars. I love the beautiful curves. And, if we really want to get sexy here, we could say that a pear's shape also mimics a woman's figure. And that's beautiful too. And sexy, and sassy, and WILD!

The Jazzy Papaya
When I look at this papaya, I can actually imagine myself sitting on a patio somewhere tropical, with the sun warmly hitting my cheeks, cool drink in my hand, with the sound of trumpets, trombones and saxophones against the contrast of the tuba, being played in the background. I don't know why it reminds me of holidays, or tubas, for that matter, but it doesn't really matter. It's still a Jazzy little Papaya.

There's always a starting point.... But this peach just seemed to start out a little boring, and definitely in some need of some funk... so I added some collage to give this peach some snap. I guess it's the graphic designer in me that wants to layer the elements of shape and color onto the page to create some visual excitement. To make it a little more WILD! The more I worked on it on this peach, the more it started to look fashionable. En vogue. Modern. I like the collage elements and how it brought a totally new feeling to this peach.

The Amber Pear
THANK YOU Amber for being one of my favorite people and thank you for being you! This pear reminds me of you. It's peaceful wildness. It's striking appearance. It's unpredictable color. It's glowing energy. I totally love this pear. I don't even know if I'll be able to sell this one.

The Sweet Life
I sat around A LOT just thinking about grapes, and what they mean to me. Of course my immediate thought was wine, so from there I brainstormed about wine. Words that came to mind for me: warm, sweet, relaxing, fun, red, chocolate, good conversation, party, socialize, classy, cheese, grapes, fancy desserts, and most important, good friends. Because without them, who would I drink wine with? Grapes actually stand for good relationships and good times.
From there, I went through newspapers, magazines and the internet, and found a whole bunch of quotes to accompany my grapes perfectly. About love. And friendships. And life. And good food. And good times. The sweet life. And finally, I tried to incorporate this all into my piece.

The Suave Pear
In spirit of the black and white party I'm hosting, and Valentine's day, I've thrown together a very cool and trendy pear (almost reminds me of an upside down heart) some black and white collage (to give it that "mod-tuxedo" kind of look) and some beautiful fun colors that seem to compliment one another perfectly. Just like Grady compliments me, perfectly.

An Apple a Day
Thank you Janet for inspiring me to get healthy. I feel WILD with excitement. And I really want to do this for myself.

I've been on a grape kick throughout this series trying to pull off a good composition but struggling with it for whatever reason. I've forced myself to research grapes a bit to gain some inspiration and I'm actually pretty excited about my findings. As it turns out, wine made from Concord grapes (Kosher wine) has some extreme health benefits such as: lowering cholesterol, killing cancer cells, improving the effectiveness of radiation, preventing heart attacks and heart disease, slowing the progression of certain degenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.... need I go on? Go get drunk! The doctor said it's kosher!

The Lonely Pear
When I look at this lonely pear, it reminds me of times in my life when I felt like I was the only person in the world. But, I am thankful for these times because I think being alone teaches us a lot about life, and about ourselves. It teaches us confidence and we become to realize what we are capable of. This quote sums it up perfectly.
“I am Me. In all the world, there is no one else exactly like me. Everything that comes out of me is authentically mine, because I alone chose it -- I own everything about me: my body, my feelings, my mouth, my voice, all my actions, whether they be to others or myself. I own my fantasies, my dreams, my hopes, my fears. I own my triumphs and successes, all my failures and mistakes. Because I own all of me, I can become intimately acquainted with me. I can see, hear, feel, think, say, and do. I have the tools to survive, to be close to others, to be productive, and to make sense and order out of the world, of people, and things outside of me. I own me, and therefore, I can engineer me. I am me, and I am Okay.” ~ Virginia Satir

Erotic Fruit
I created this Erotic Fruit when I bought and moved into my first home. I don't even think I had the kitchen unpacked yet, and I had the glue stick and watercolors out on the kitchen counter. I felt randomly inspired to paint some pears and apples to match my cute little kitchen. I painted the pears and apples with watercolors, and I collaged the background with thumbnail sketches that I drew in college, during an advertising course. And finally I used some markers to add some contrast. This piece has good memories attached to it... moving into a new home with an overwhelming sense of inspiration. I was inspired when I made this, and happy. It felt good... to feel like that. And I still enjoy looking at this Exotic Fruit, even eight years later.

The Monkeys' Lunch
I'm on this banana kick right now. Grady's been buying bananas like crazy, and all of us monkeys, have been eating them. The kids are crazy hyper. And I'm just crazy. Do you think it's all the bananas we've been eating? The Fruit's Gone Wild is really starting to rub off on this family!

The Glamorous Pear
This piece is done in a different style from the rest of the series and this is on purpose.... The style in which this pear is done is a sneak peek at where my creative journey is headed next. Think cool martinis, mixed up in classic steel shakers. Or maybe a glass of crisp, clean wine. Ooohhh la la... it's gonna be so much fun!
