Today I will share one of the most powerful and moving experiences I
have yet had in my life. It is a perfect example of why I love being surrounded by art and artist friends. Art is the one thing that always seems to move me in a way that nothing else can.
We all have our different opinions about art. Some of us love a certain painting only because it matches our couch perfectly, some of us love a certain piece because of the feelings it evokes when we look at it, some of us are just in total awe of the talent that the artist has, and some of us could give a rip about art, and that's okay too. But, today I will share a unique experience that ANYONE will love. This is my personal experience on how art can have such an impact, that it can actually leave you feeling differently. For me... well, it left me feeling warm, for the first time in weeks.
After my husband passed away, when I was still in
a complete state of disbelief and I was just totally lost... a group of local artists got together and made a collaborative art piece for me. Seriously, this is so special. An honor really.

I can barely remember who brought it by my shop. I think it was a lady who dropped it off, but I can't really remember her. That part is a fog to me. But, when I opened it up, and read the letter attached to the back of it, I was changed forever. I was touched so deeply by their
gesture that I will never forget the exact feeling I had when I read
their explanation for the piece. I was overwhelmed by a sense of love
and support. I felt sad, but thankful. And for a moment, I didn't feel alone. Still today, every time I look at this piece, I feel loved. Here is the message that was attached to the back of it:
To Brandy and two precious girls!
A few artists and invited guests gathered for a regular Arrowsmith Gallery closing of season party on the 30th of September. We had planned a little Mystery Art Event which was unknown to everyone who arrived and it was a joint paint pouring collaborative project.
We all decided that this was a perfect time to remember you Brandy at this very difficult moment in your life. Your loss of Chris in such a tragic way has impacted all of us and we have felt your pain very deeply. No one can make this right for you and those precious girls but we knew that in these weeks to come there would be some way we could cheer you up and to let you know that we are thinking of you and value all that you have done for us in the arts community.
This painting was heart felt and carries all the hopes and dreams of a new life for you, one that can be filled again with hope and joy and newness.
Those who poured a little color in love for you were:
- Karen and Niel Arrowsmith
- Beth Penny and Dave Coe
- Victoria Henriksen and Heath Cara
- Joanne and Hugh Wiley
- Maureen Cameron
- Artis and Ed Williams
- Elaine Lester
- Alison and Ted Diakiw
- Frank Wishlow
- Linda Anderson
- Jackie and Clem Verhoeven
Man. Every time I read that, I can't help but think about how lucky I am. Thank you to all the artists who were a part of that. It's a painting that I hold dear to my heart. It makes me feel so appreciative for all the love and support I have in my life. Every day. It's awesome.
Thank You.
